Thanks to an awesome collection of recent media and press coverages, we now know a whole lot more about Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls Online (and let me just say– things are looking promising!). The trouble is that all of the news and interesting pieces of information are scattered across the ‘net and hidden in articles and videos. We’re here to help! Here is an organized list of bulletpoint-sized tidbits perfect for a quick read-through. We’ve even organized them based on subject.

With PAX this weekend, we may recieve more information as the weekend unfolds. Stay tuned! In the meantime, this list contains current pre-PAX info. If you notice anything we’ve missed, feel free to drop us a line in the comments section below!

The-Latest-Buzz

The latest Ask Us Anything from TESO has been released, and we’re beginning to be able to tell a lot about what combat will be like when the game goes live. For those who have not yet heard, TESO will employ a “soft targeting” system. Essentially, this type of combat will be a combination of traditional Elder Scrolls combat (no targeting other than crosshair) and that which is normally found in the MMO world (hard targeting). Instead of using tab/click to select and lock onto an NPC or opposing player, and subsequently “lock” onto that enemy, hovering the targeting reticule over the enemy will focus the player’s attack at that target. This allows the player to select a specific enemy in a crowd, even if the target is behind another enemy, while maintaining the freedom to switch targets by simply soft-targeting something else.

RPGamer.com has offered us their opinion on The Elder Scrolls Online from E3 2012. We never get tired of reading about TES so here’s one more opinion based off of what went on at E3 and here’s what they had to say.

The combat in The Elder Scrolls Online will be action oriented. As the developers are trying to stay away from the skill cooldowns commonly found in other MMOs, they have incorporated elements of the combat found in the main Elder Scrolls games. The game will feature different types of attacks, such as normal attacks and charged attacks. Additionally, the player will be able to crouch, sneak, block, and perform other movements in battle. Despite a wide assortment of skills and abilities, the developers are currently working with a minimalist user interface for the game. Although the interface shown in E3 is by no means the final product, its current form simply shows players their health, magic, and stamina.
